SUGAR BEACH OCEANFRONT CONDOMINIUM GUIDE
Sugar Beach is one of the longest continuous beaches in the State of Hawaii and most likely the longest in Maui. It is about 3 miles long (will vary depending where you measure from). It goes from North Kihei (across from the old Maui Lu (which was torn down and now is the Hilton Timeshare) to Maalaea. It is great beach to walk, or jog. Good beach to ocean activites but not the best for surfing as waves are not consistent unless we have a swell coming through. If the swell hits right then one of the fastest waves can be had in Maalaea and that surf break is called Freight Trains. Here is a video of Freight Trains from about a year ago on a massive swell!
Sugar Beach Condominiums:
There are 7 condominium complexes. Kihei Beach, Maalaea Surf, Kihei Kai, Nani Kai Hale, Kihei Sands, Sugar Beach Resort and Kealia. All of these are fee simple complexes except for Kealia. Although there may be a leasehold unit I am not aware of any at this point but do double check with your realtor.
Why are there only 7 condominium complexes on a beach more than 3 miles long? Well, alot of the beach is backed by Kealia National Wildlife Refuge. There is boardwalk there and it is lovely place to watch the native Hawaiian Stilt birds and migrating birds as well. https://www.fws.gov/refuge/kealia-pond
